Product Notes
"Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force" is the debut album by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, released in 1985. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam was a New York-based trio composed of Lisa Lisa (Lisa Velez) - lead vocalist, Alex "Spanador" Moseley - guitarist and keyboardist, and Mike Hughes - drummer and percussionist. They were one of the first groups to bring freestyle music into the mainstream, blending R&B, Latin, and electronic influences. The group's success paved the way for later freestyle artists like Exposé and The Cover Girls. The album was produced by the Brooklyn-based production team Full Force, who also played a key role in shaping the group's signature freestyle, R&B, and dance-pop sound. The album features the hit single "I Wonder If I Take You Home," which became a major success in clubs before breaking into the mainstream charts, helping to popularize freestyle music. "Can You Feel the Beat" was another club hit, known for it's infectious rhythm and Latin-inspired beats. The ballad "All Cried Out" became one of their most iconic songs and was later covered by Allure featuring 112 in the 1990s. The album reached #16 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and helped establish Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam as a major force in 1980s urban pop music.
