With the fall of Nazi Germany, and her S.S. officer father in Allied custody, 14-year-old Hitler Youth Lore (Saskia Rosendahl) is implored by her mother to take her four younger siblings on a 500-mile trek to their grandparents' home. They find aid in their harrowing journey from a sympathetic Jewish teenager (Kai-Peter Malina), and Lore finds herself having to confront and question a lifetime's indoctrination.
