Product Notes
LOST AND FOUND was written specially for Sharon D Clarke as part of Talawa Theatre Company's Zebra Crossing 2 season at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith in 1998. Originally intended as a cabaret showcase for Sharon to bring her inimitable vocal style to some classic numbers, as it developed the piece began to incorporate newly written material by music director Warren Wills and director Richard Hansom, and the songs started to thread themselves together into a narrative. Revived again at the Bridewell Theatre in 1999, more new material was added and the storyline developed. While keeping to a simple plot, which could have come straight out of a Judy Garland movie, LOST AND FOUND is really about the songs and Sharon's voice. Her superb and effortless performance travels from the silkiest of swing to the raunchiest of soul numbers. The selection of material allows her to 'boogie on down', keep us thoroughly amused and, of course, break our hearts. We hope this album will bring the warmth of Sharon's personality and the sheer force of her stage presence to a wider audience.
