Drawing on funk, soul, dub, disco, and a range of international influences, the album moves easily from the buoyant pulse of "Time (You and I)" and the handclap-driven "Pelota" to the meditative atmosphere of "Father Bird, Mother Bird" and "If There Is No Question." The restrained performances and reverb-rich arrangements create a hazy, unhurried flow, making Mordechai an inviting and subtly adventurous album that works equally well as focused listening or an atmospheric soundtrack.
