Product Notes
Most tracks new to CD. Includes numerous major Jamaican hits. Features some of reggae's biggest stars. During the first half of the 1970s, the Jamaican music industry underwent a series of major transformations, which by the middle of the decade had produced two new distinct and hugely influential reggae sub-genres: roots and dub. Among the leading proponents of both was Phil Pratt, who since launching his Sunshot label in 1969 had demonstrated a keen understanding of Jamaica's musical tastes and trends, with the popularity of his output from this time earning him a reputation as one of the island's leading operators. Throughout 1974, Pratt remained at the top of his game, producing and releasing hits by some of the finest vocal talents the island had to offer, with their number including such reggae luminaries as Pat Kelly, Al Campbell, The Heptones, Horace Andy, Delroy Wilson, and Linval Thompson. The growing influence of the increasingly popular styles of roots and dub is clearly apparent his work from this time, as evidenced on this 2CD set, which collects the cream of Pratt's output throughout this transformative year. Including numerous tracks new to CD, 'Party Time' provides the opportunity for fans of classic 70s reggae to enjoy some of the biggest Jamaican hits from the era alongside many overlooked rarities that finally receive a long overdue re-release.
