Product Notes
2014 album from the Jazz band. Citrus Sun is the new Jazz band from Bluey, founder & leader of the UK band Incognito, who have charted on the Billboard Top 10 Jazz. Citrus Sun should be viewed as Bluey' s alter ego- an eight piece band featuring noted UK guitarist Jim Mullen, key members of the Incognito line-up and vocalist Valerie Etienne. The project is born of Bluey' s love for guitar playing of Mullen, who in a 40-year career has played with the likes of Brian Auger, Average White Band, Jimmy Witherspoon and his own pioneering jazz-funk band Morrissey-Mullen. Incognito regulars Matt Cooper (Keyboards), bassist Francis Hylton and drummer Francesco Mendolia are also featured. Bluey describes the sound of Citrus Sun as ' ' more sparse as it features a sole trumpet reminiscent of the late Donald Byrd and there is a cool Latin flavor on some cuts. The distinctive sound of Jim Mullen' s thumbing guitar brings a tonal quality very different to Incognito, but at times it' s obvious that this is the Incognito rhythm section and we make no excuses, instead celebrating the fact that this is a new project by the same band with me at the helm.'
