The Proud Rebel is an American western starring Alan Ladd, Olivia de Havilland and Harry Dean Stanton. The story is about a widowed Confederate veteran and his mute son who struggle to make a new life among hostile neighbors in the American Midwest. John Chandler (Alan Ladd) is travelling through an Illinois town with his 10-year-old son David (David Ladd) to see a doctor. The locals try to steal David's dog and his father fights them off, but is threatened to be taken to jail by the sheriff.
