"Rachmaninoff - The Lucerne Orchestral Edition" documents an extraordinary long-term artistic project that took shape over five summers between 2019 and 2026 at the Lucerne Festival. Together with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Riccardo Chailly explored Sergei Rachmaninoff's major orchestral works, creating a richly faceted musical portrait of the composer. The edition brings together the four piano concertos, the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, the three symphonies, the Symphonic Dances, as well as other major orchestral works and rarely performed compositions.

Few places are better suited to such an exploration than Lucerne. It was here, on the shores of Lake Lucerne, that Rachmaninoff spent an important period of his exile during the 1930s and composed several of his most significant late works. Featuring Beatrice Rana, Mao Fujita, Alexander Malofeev, Lukas Sternath and Denis Matsuev, the edition brings together an outstanding roster of pianists whose individual artistry lends each concerto a distinctive character. Together with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, they deliver performances of exceptional precision, orchestral clarity and emotional intensity under Riccardo Chailly's insightful direction.

Presented together for the first time, these recordings from 2019 to 2026 capture a project that evolved over several years. Available as a 5-DVD and 5-Blu-ray edition, Rachmaninoff - The Lucerne Orchestral Edition offers a compelling perspective on the expressive richness and remarkable breadth of Rachmaninoff's orchestral music.
