The San Francisco quartet Tango No. 9 returns with their second release, sharing a uniquely American take on Argentine traditional tango. From tunes that define the traditions of tango, to the title track - an original written for them - the album is steeped in history. Departing from their roots in the modern Tango Nuevo of Astor Piazzolla, "Radio Valencia" takes on a dazzling array of tango dance standards, well-loved favorites and unknown gems from the passionate world of tango. Their first release, "All Them Cats in Recoleta" (SPH #529) was picked by Jazziz Magazine as one of the best nuevo tango CDs of 2002. The L.A. Times said "this ensemble has indeed fallen head over heels in love with tango."
