With it's 1688 printed collection of the Hortus Musicus apparently quite confident Johann Adam Reincken (1643-1722) wanted his critics in the mirror of their own musical inadequacy. The largely designed according to a standard six Partitas, each consisting of an introductory Sonata plus a suite of Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gigue, he had therefore bestowed the greatest possible variety and artistry in the drafting. No wonder then that the young Bach became enthusiastic Reincken Hortus Musicus and several sets transcribed for study purposes for Harpsichord.
