Los Angeles-based guitarist Dave Askren began playing music professionally by age 15. After high school, Dave moved to Boston, where he attended Berklee College of Music and also studied privately with guitarist Mick Goodrick, pianist Charlie Banacos, saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, and drummers Bob Gullotti and Bob Moses. On his new CD, Dave re-creates the legendary piano style of Bill Evans on his guitar, resulting in a minimalistic sound that still retains the overall intent and character of the original pieces. He's joined by drummer Steve Sykes and bassist Mike Flick, musicians who are familiar with the Evans tradition of rhythmic flexibility and swing, but they maintain their own individuality.
