Product Notes
This 21 track CD offers the complete recordings of Little Miss Cornshucks, except for her 1960 Chess LP. Accompanied by Marl Young's eleven-piece band, "So Long" and "Have You Ever Loved Somebody?" sport fantastic alto solos by Frank Derrick, while "Gonna Leave Here Walkin'" and "When Mommy Sings A Lullaby " boast piano solos by the leader. "For Old Time's Sake" features a trumpet solo by Melvin Moore, and "I Don't Love You Any More" spotlights Nick Cooper's fiery horn on the solo and Moore in the final trade-off with Cornshucks. It is easy to observe the tremendous influence this artist exerted over her peers, and her records would go on to inspire later performers like Billy Wright, Ruth Brown, Johnny Ray, Wynona Carr and LaVerne Baker.
