Product Notes
Ron Hawkins and co.'s marriage of punk, rock and folk with unpretentious lyrics about epic love affairs, poverty and history hints at Elvis Costello and Billy Bragg.
Produced by Andy Koyama, Lowest Of the Low's "Shakespeare My Butt", is a Canadian Classic, with hit singles like "Bleed a Little While Tonight", "Rosy and Grey" and "Salesmen, Cheats and Liars", the album quickly became a must have in the Indie music circles, and topped both Sales and Radio charts in the early 90's At the time of it's release, the album "Shakespeare My Butt" became the best-selling independent release in Canadian history. However, it's melodic, jangly folk-punk has made it an enduring classic of Canadian music. In Chart's three Best Canadian Albums of All Time polls, Shakespeare My Butt... is one of six albums to have ranked in the top ten all three times, The album was also ranked 84th in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. The album enjoyed incredible staying power and went Gold in 2008, seventeen years after it's release, and is now closing in on Platinum Sales. This is a re-issue of the original album.Credits
