The soundtrack features a memorable score by Peter Schickele and songs by Joan Baez. After the end of all botanical life on Earth, an ecologist and his robots maintain a greenhouse on a space station in order to preserve key plants from extinction. They are later ordered to destroy the greenhouse, a decision that forces them to do anything necessary to keep their invaluable greenery alive. The film stars Bruce Dern and features Cliff Potts, Ron Rifkin, and Jesse Vint. It was directed by Douglas Trumbull, who had previously worked as a special effects supervisor on science fiction films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Andromeda Strain.
