Description
Robert Taylor and Susan Peters are trapped between love and war in this WWII romantic drama, costarring Robert Benchley and featuring the music of Tchaikovsky. When John Meredith (Taylor) meets amateur pianist Nadya Stepanova (Peters) at a Moscow concert in 1941, the America conductor follows her to her rural town and marries her. Leaving her husband's tour when Germany begins it's invasion, Nadya returns to her father's farm and fights against the Nazis. With the region under martial law and safe travel nonexistent, Meredith begins a perilous trek to reunite with his wife, unaware that her village may have already been destroyed. Although later condemned as pro-Soviet propaganda, Song of Russia was a critical and box-office success, made at the Office of War Information's request that Hollywood support the alliance between the United States and it's ally.
