Product Notes

'Partially Devoured', Sonic Roach Destruction Unit's fifth studio offering, was largely record in two sessions at Roar Studio's in Cincinnati, Ohio. The band's goal for these sessions was to capture the raw energy of SRDU's live sound output without utilizing overdubs, studio effects and other gadgetry. The resulting disc is chocked full of punchy and harmonic power pop/punk tunes reminiscent of early Paul Collins (The Nerves/The Best) and considered to be some of their strongest songwriting to date. The disc opens strong with the powerful psychedelic and syncopated 'Burgundy Flower Bloom'. Surreal lyrics, a catchy groove, and a mind-numbing hook are the touchstones of this tune. The band slows it down for a tribute to the modern age with 'Staring at the Screen'. Hooky yet moody, keyboards whine while guitars grind on this infectious and sordid number. Track three 'Red October Sky', is a tongue in cheek look at coming of age, nuclear war and loss. Moving forward, short and sweet is the dump your publication anthem 'Cancel It'. The hits keep coming with the bouncy and bombastic single 'Percussion Heroes'. 'Foam Over' and 'The Salient Ones' continue to pound your head while touching your subconscious. Jangly guitars permeate 'Potential Consumer' a buyers guide to excess. The disc concludes with several heavy and in your face rock numbers 'Don't Wanna Dance, Save the Light, Message in Your Mind, Not Fit for Today, Mirror Mirror and Into the Flame'. The best way to sum up Sonic Roach Destruction Unit's music was probably stated by a Midwestbands.com review of their second disc Opus Roachus Maximus, "I would recommend that you hear the music of Sonic Roach Destruction Unit; be prepared, though. It isn't feel-good music that you'll enjoy while sipping your favorite beverage in your office or living room. It is very raw, with good guitar work, and creative lyrics that deserve a close listen".
