Product Notes
State of the Heart means even more to me now than when I released it in May. To be able to see the connection between the fans and to understand how intertwined our stories all are only makes it more meaningful to be able to share this Deluxe Edition. The five songs completing the album are as fundamental to the definition of State of the Heart as any others. It was important there would be no filler. I grew up listening to ZZ Top's "Rough Boy" with my Dad and now I am able to share my version with Billy Gibbons. I wrote a letter to myself almost ten years ago which now lives inside of "Forgive Yourself". "Good Die Young" is a song I wrote with my younger brother and both "Hummingbird" and "Like The Water" represent metaphors that run deep throughout this record. I could say it's been quite a ride to the end of this album but I think it's more fitting to say it's been quite the journey to the beginning.
