Product Notes
Sunshine Superman [Blu-spec CD2] [Limited Edition] / Donovan - Part of the Donovan Paper Sleeve Collection (2), this special reissue celebrates Donovan, the singular singer-songwriter whose distinctive artistry made him one of the most unique and beloved figures of the late 1960s and early 1970s, marking both the 60th anniversary of his 2025 debut and the 80th anniversary of his birth in 2026. Reissued for the first time in paper-sleeve format, this edition faithfully recreates the original US LP as closely as possible, including the inner sleeve, and also features a replica of the Japanese LP obi (CSB Sony obi), a 2026 remaster, high-quality Blu-spec CD2 format, newly written liner notes, and lyrics with Japanese translations. Led by the chart-topping title track, which reached No. 1 in the US, and featuring the enduring classic "Season of the Witch," this landmark 1966 release was Donovan's first album for Epic and a breakthrough work that marked a decisive departure from his earlier folk image. Blending medieval-inspired lyrics with his Celtic musical roots and Indian influences, the album helped pioneer the emerging psychedelic era with remarkable originality and vision. It also features guitar contributions from Jimmy Page, then still working as a session musician. The album reached No. 11 in the US, and this edition is produced from a reproduction of the original US A-style LP jacket, with three bonus tracks scheduled for inclusion.
