Product Notes
Limited edition of 2000 numbered copies on white coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Switch is the tenth studio album by Dutch rock band Golden Earring, released in 1975 as the follow-up of the band's international breakthrough album Moontan and their bona fide classic track Radar Love. Both American music magazine Billboard and UK music magazine Sounds appointed the band in 1974 as one of the most promising new bands. But Switch marked a switch for Golden Earring, as it was more influenced by funk and prog than any of the band's previous or subsequent releases. Lead single 'Kill Me (Ce Soir)' perfectly demonstrates how Golden Earring experimented with a new sound. Golden Earring archivist Wouter Bessels catalogued and listened through all work tapes from the Switch sessions and found a previously unreleased track: Action Alice & Bow-Tie Basil. Recorded during the Switch sessions, it marks the first time that the band has approved a previously unreleased finished studio track for release. LP2 of this expanded 50th anniversary release of Switch offers the cream of the crop from the session tapes, augmented by 7-inch single versions of 'Kill Me (Ce Soir)' and 'The Switch', as well as the B-side of 'Kill Me (Ce Soir)': 'Lucky Number'. All tracks have been 24 bit/192 kHz remastered from the original master tapes. Last but not least: the original IBC Studios master tapes of Switch reveal the legendary '50 Hz roll off' note. On request of executive producer Freddy Haayen, the cutting engineer @ IBC was commissioned to cut all frequencies below 50 Hz, which meant that a large chunk of low-end frequencies was eliminated from the final mixes during vinyl cutting. This elimination was done on the production tape copies of the album, which were used for vinyl cutting, but not the original first-generation masters used on this reissue. So, for the very first time, on LP1 of this remastered issue, Switch finally sounds as it was recorded and mixed - with all (full range) frequencies intact. Switch (remastered & expanded) is available as a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on white coloured vinyl, it's housed in a gatefold sleeve, 2 printed innersleeves and includes a lyric sheet.
