Product Notes
Directed by Emmy -nominated filmmaker Dan Reed (HBOs Terror in Mumbai and Terror in Moscow), this 60-minute documentary is a searing account of the events of September 21, 2013, when members of the Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab stormed the Westgate Mall in Kenya, ultimately claiming responsibility for the deaths of 67 men, women and children and hundreds injured. Documenting the attack in stark detail from many angles, more than 100 security cameras recorded the events at the crowded mall, one of Kenyas largest and most modern. Using carefully edited footage from the security cameras, much of it never before seen, extensive photos taken that day, and testimony from survivors and rescuers who are depicted in the images, Terror at the Mall recalls the horror of the attack, as well as the courage and resilience of ordinary citizens in the face of mass murder.
