Sheriff John Higgins (John Wayne) goes into prospecting after he thinks he's killed his best friend in a shoot-out with some robbers. Now an ex-lawman, Higgins meets his dead pal's sister and helps her run her ranch. All seems fine until she finds out about his past. Then it's up to Higgins to unravel the mystery of his old friend's death.
