Icarus Films is proud to now bring the restored version of The Battle of Chile and The First Year to DVD for the first time ever—a stunning upgrade from our critically acclaimed 2009 box set edition. In 2023, on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 coup d’etat in Chile, Icarus Films premiered the new restoration in cinemas, as well as Guzmán’s 1972 debut feature The First Year, which previously had never before been available in the United States.

Included on this special 2-disc DVD set is all three parts of Patricio Guzmán’s seminal documentary, The Battle of Chile, an epic chronicle of that country’s open and peaceful socialist revolution and of the violent counter-revolution against it, as well as Guzmán’s debut feature, The First Year, which has never before been available on DVD—until now. Restored and digitized under Patricio Guzmán’s supervision, this version of The First Year features a short introduction to Chile and its history by documentary legend Chris Marker.
