Mr. Sommers takes these classics and let's the inherent beauty of each melody guide his sax playing. And, how wonderful to hear organic instruments (old-fashioned?), drums, bass, guitar (I could listen to the extremely talented John Chiodini all day long) and piano as the foundation of these songs. Mr. Sommers is very respectful of the melody, which seems to bring out the beauty of his saxophone. A special mention to the talented Bill Cunliffe for his tasteful arrangements and piano playing.
