Felipe Salles traveled to Uganda in 2011 where he researched traditional Ugandan music and wildlife, worked with local artists, and visited the music departments of Makerere and Kyambogo Universities. His findings served as inspiration for his sixth album, Ugandan Suite. This work is the first major jazz composition to use Ugandan musical idioms. Through an intelligent integration of these idioms with Western musical forms, Felipe presents a fresh interpretation of the country's regional ethnic soundscapes, which have received minimal attention from composers as a primary source of inspiration. Each of the work's five movements portrays the character of the animal from which it takes it's name.
