Melanie Safka busted onto the pop charts in the late 1960's with her rousing collaboration of "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" with the Edwin Hawkins Singers. Her string of hits continued into the early 1970's with "Brand New Hit", "The Nickel Song", "Beautiful People", "Ruby Tuesday" and "Look What They Done to My Song, Ma".
