Product Notes
Jack Millman wasn't just another trumpet player. He was an artist who saw the world of jazz as a canvas too vast to be confined by the rules of the genre. By the time he was 18, Millman had already composed a symphony, which was as bold a move as it was unusual for a young jazz musician. His early work was shaped by classical sensibilities, which made his approach to jazz more intricate and structured than many of his contemporaries, yet it never sacrificed the feeling and rhythm that defined the best of the genre. On this album we discover how Millman reshaped the landscape of the West Coast jazz band by challenging it's boundaries, infusing his work with both modern and symphonic elements in ways that had rarely been attempted. Through his work, Millman offered a vision of jazz that wasn't just about the rhythms or the solos - it was about creating a fuller, richer sound, one that captured the depth of both classical and jazz traditions without sacrificing the power of either.
