Product Notes

About Cynthia: Singer/songwriter Cynthia Summers used to be a poet and you can tell. Her songs are full of what Sing Out! Magazine describes as 'intricate imagery' but they're never pretentious. Serious, funny, or bittersweet, Summers isn't posturing. She's just singing the truth. The Online Folk Festival notes that Summers 'writes seemingly simple songs about domestic life that explore larger truths.' A deft guitarist, Summers also owns a wickedly beautiful voice. Her sound has been likened to some of the finest voices in acoustic music. Sing Out! Says her voice is 'reminiscent of a young Judy Collins.' Summers's voice has also been compared to those of Natalie Merchant and Joan Baez. Summers has gained solid recognition in the acoustic music world. Her awards include NJ Folk Festival New Folk Showcase winner (2004); SolarFest songwriting competition alternate finalist (2006); Yaddo fellowship; and Robert Frost Place fellowship. Her song, 'Sort of Old Car,' was featured on the June 16, 2007 broadcast of the NPR radio show, 'Car Talk.' About the CD: 'Love at Every Turn' was recorded at Signature Studios, in Pomfret, CT. Cynthia wrote all but of 1 of the 10 songs; the one cover is of a Greg Brown tune. The musicians include drummer Dave Mattacks, guitarist Duke Levine, bassist Richard Gates, keyboard player Michael Bellar, violinist Edita Blaskova, cellist Roman Placek, and violist Cori Tolda. Steve Santoro did the string arrangements. The record was mastered by Bob St. John at PDQ productions in Miramar, Florida. Moya McAllister took the photos and Roe Intrieri did the design. REVIEW from Spring 2007 issue of Sing Out!: 'The intricate imagery in Cynthia Summers songs reflects her past life as an award-winning poet. Her country-tinged melodies are lushly supported by top studio players, including Duke Levine and Dave Mattacks, as well as a string trio. But the star here is Cynthia's crystalline but powerful soprano, eerily reminiscent of a young Judy Collins. A strong debut for this New Jersey native.'
