"Unusual, one-of-a-kind instrumental recording"; 17 traditional hymns, over dubbed into duets, trios and quartets; 34 minutes played on one professional chromatic harmonica; one instrument sounds like 4 harmonicas in close beautiful harmony. Musician, James Monroe German, a retired farmer, age 68, played chromatic harmonica since age 9 for over 59 years, legally blind, he has a new CD for sale. Very few people play this, very-difficult-to-play-well, instrument. He plays in a very classic style, ALL KEYS on an instrument that most people have given up trying to play. Most people who play harmonicas, require an instrument in EACH KEY that they will play in. So they may have 7 or 8 harmonicas of various keys in their carrying bag. Jim plays ALL THE DIFFERENT KEYS on just ONE KEY OF "C" instrument. The KEY OF "C" is the basic key on the white notes of the piano. James has performed in public at churches, retirement centers, nursing homes, harmonica player's festivals and parties for many years. This recording proves that a chromatic harmonica can be played as an orchestral instrument with great proficiency. Add this CD recording to your collection and you will be pleased and surprised! In 1948, at age 9 James had a benign brain tumor removed. This tumor left him TOTALLY BLIND for almost 2 years. Being musically inclined, he picked up different instruments to play. His parents bought him a 64 reed chromatic harmonica that cost only $18.00 back then. Jim was out of school due to his blindness for almost 2 years and lost out in his schooling. Since James could not play sports with the other kids, his harmonica practice filled a void in his life. Brail books for the blind was ordered for him. Gradually, at first, his vision came back in the central part of his right eye. Going through school was then completed but with difficulty, since he had no field vision. Even today, James is LEGALLY BLIND but yet operates farm machinery on his 165 acre farm. With vision just in the central part of his right eye, he has even done electrical wiring. At the time of this recording, 2007, Jim is a 68 years old retired poultry farmer. The Lord has apparently spared his life for SOME PURPOSE. He has been through the TESTING of a brain tumor, blindness, being run over with a 14,000 pound fork-lift, lymphoma cancer, colitis and a burned-down $150,000 chicken house. The Lord has cured him of all of them! James is quite active in music at his church. Jim and his wife, Patty, live on a large farm in northwestern North Carolina. In 50 years, he has raised and sold over 9 million chickens before his retirement. Since age 17, James has wanted to make recordings of HARMONY and MELODY! It was impossible to make quality recordings with the recording equipment that we had in the early years. With today's modern digital recorders, it is easy with a little equipment training. Jim has a recording studio in his basement. In this recording, the various harmony parts were arranged, played and recorded by Mr. German. The instrument that recorded EVERY PART is a Hohner Super 64X Chromatic Harmonica, the 16 hole, 64 reed professional model. With Jim's Tascam 8-track Digital Recorder, he recorded the soprano, tenor, alto and bass in stereo. The 4 tracks were mixed down to two stereo tracks before Bill Ellis, the recording engineer did the art work and final CD recording with packaging for sale. Mr. James M. German is probably the only person to ever create a recording with multiple harmonica sounds like this! Enjoy...you will love it!!!
